Speed! makes skip-counting loads of fun, and mastery of skip-counting makes multiplication easy. Two players compete against each other to be the first to get rid of their cards, but they must watch-out...... if the number in the middle is the same they must be the first to shout Speed!, otherwise they will get all the played cards added to their stack.

Speed! is available as physical cards, an iPad app or an iPhone app.

Physical Cards

Check out this video showing a round of Three Speed in action.

Kids can skip-count by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's with the game of Speed!.

For families, Speed! makes a super activity for special parent/child time or family game night. The physical version is excellent for tournaments or round robin games where decks and opponents are constantly changing. Since two people can play with one deck of cards, up to 16 kids can be busy memorizing their multiplication tables with one box of Speed!

The rounds are fast paced and last less than five minutes, so it's an easy activity for educators to sneak in at the end of a lesson. Kids love this game because it's fun. Adults love it because it's fun and the kids are learning.

Now there are two ways to purchase the physical version of Speed! It can be purchased directly from me by clicking on the Buy Now button above, or on Amazon.com by clicking on the icon below.

iPad/iPhone Version

On the iPad players begin as a Trainee and can advance through the levels to become a Legend. With five levels to pick from and eight numbers to skip-count this game will keep kids entertained for hours. They don't realize how much they are learning because they are busy trying to win and having fun. The Lite version is free and contains the Two Speed deck of cards at all levels while the Full version costs only 99 cents and contains card decks Two Speed through Nine Speed.

To find Speed! in the App Store switch the category to education and then search on
  • Speed, math
  • Speed, highhill
  • Speed, multiplication

Then download it and have fun playing! (Be sure to let the kids have a turn.)

Speed! Instructions

Number Sense

When kids play Speed! they not only learn to skip-count, but gain valuable number sense skills. The repetition of playing with one deck of cards until the child is extremely familiar with the deck helps children to make associations between certain numbers. In learning more advanced mathematical concepts such as reducing the fraction 15/21, they will instinctively know that the numbers 15 and 21, are related by the number 3 because they were both in the Three-Speed deck of cards. Similarly, they will recognize patterns in numbers such as multiples because the numbers in the Six-Speed deck were also in the Three-Speed deck.

The best way to help a child gain this type of number sense is to play consistently with one deck of cards. When a child can easily beat an adult that child is ready for the next deck. Remember, this game is fun. Kids are playing to win. The number sense just develops naturally. Check out the links under Patterns in the Cards below for more information on this topic.

  1. Yeah! We will be purchasing this game today it looks wonderful in a few weeks I'm posting all the things I'm doing to get my kiddos up to "speed" (pun intended) on their math facts! Is it okay if I use your video as long as I point them back to your website. I'm super excited about your game. YEAH for creative homeschool Mama's!

  2. This looks like a great game! Thanks for linking it up! I haven't seen it at the stores here in the US, but I'll be on the look out for it! I would love to get the cards. I'm always looking for some more fun ways to teach skip counting!

    1. Kids love Speed!, but it isn't available in stores. The only place you can get it is on Amazon.com and in the iPad store for the electronic version.

  3. We just purchased these. Excited to have a different way to teach multiplication facts. Thank you!

    1. That's great! Let me know how it goes.

  4. Thanks for sharing, I will bookmark and be back again

  5. The only complaint I have is the font is very difficult to read. Especially for early readers

    1. The font will be changing the next time I restock inventory. :)

    2. YAAAAY! Just what I was wondering. Amazon reviews say the same thing. How long do we wait for that, though?

    3. I have the new ones in stock at my house. If you want one please send me an email. jmommymom - at - gmail - dot - com and place an order through my blog with a comment.

The updated font cards will go to amazon when the old inventory runs out. That seems to be difficult to estimate. Right now I'm thinking maybe March.
