Postcardkids and Postcrossing are two different web groups for exchanging postcards. This is a great activity for kids to learn geography and improve writing skills. Young children can help by putting periods at the end of sentences and signing their name. Older children can write the cards and even manage the web site interaction.
Although both websites work a little differently they are free (except the postage and postcard expenses). Postcardkids is a yahoo group with the majority of members in the United States. Members agree via email to exchange postcards with other members and are free to make as many or few exchanges as they would like. Postcrossing is a more international group. After signing up members request an address for sending a postcard. A code is written on the card and after the card is received and the code recorded the sending member becomes eligible to receive cards. I highly recommend this as postcard exchanging can be a very motivating writing activity.
