Best Fantasy Books

Comet in Moominland is one book in the Moomin series. The Moomins capture the last dragon in the world, save Ninny from being permanently invisible, and find the Hobligen's hat which can change into the opposite of what ever is in the hat. This series was written by Tove Jansen of Finland and children are delighted with the strange adventures of the Moomin family.

The Wizard of Oz Series continues to delight children after 100 years. L Frank Baum vividly describes adventures of Princess Ozma, Dorothy, and Trot with the Patchwork Girl a quilted doll, the Sawhorse, Jack Pumpkin Head and many more interesting characters as they journey through strange lands. They meet Queen Cut-N-Clip in a land of paper and princess Ozga, the Rose Princess in the Rose Kingdom. The numerous fantasy worlds filled with enchantment have kept us entertained for over a year.

Bilbo and his friends go on a quest to recapture Thorin's Kingdom from Smog the dragon in The Hobbit. My daughter and all her friends have informal book club discussions regarding The Hobbit.

Willie Wonka must decide what to do with his chocolate factory when he retires. I loved the movie as a kid and read the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with my children as an adult. We all loved it. Who can resist chocolate rivers and candy forests? The story brings five children on a tour of the chocolate factory and appeals to our sense of fairness when good children are rewarded. This book is a sweet tooth's delight!
