Apple Crisp and Apple Sauce

Now that the apples are ripening we have been busy cooking with them. We just finished up our third week of school and everything is going well.

Apple sauce and apple crisp are two favorites. Cooked apple sauce is good, but raw applesauce can't be beat. A few chopped apples, cup of pitted dates, tablespoon of cinnamon, 1/4 cup of water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt thrown into the food processor makes a mouth watering applesauce, full of tart, juicy flavor.

Everybody helped. My 12 year old and I peeled the apples while Jemma and my son cut them into pieces.

For the apple crisp, the apples were put into a baking dish and covered with oats, flour, a little salt and cinnamon and baked.
