Dubrovnik Wall

During the middle ages the city of Dubrovnik was protected by the sea, a city wall including a moat, cannon and watch towers. These defenses aided the citizens in successfully defending their city from the Saracens in the 9th century, the Venetians in the 10th century, and the Crusaders in the 13th century.

Although much of the city was destroyed during the 1667 earthquake, damage to the wall was minimal.

Today Dubrovnik and the walls surrounding the city are part of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Visitors can walk the wall around the city which is a little over a mile in distance.
