Verona City Walls

Verona was a city on the cross roads. This unique feature made it successful, but also made it suceptable to invaders. The Adige River offered some protection, but walls were necessary to keep out unwanted guests. They were built between the 12th and 16th century. Basically the city began with an inner wall, but expanded in size and so a second wall was built to encompass a greater sized city. Again the city grew and another wall was built.

Walking around Verona today many walls from different time periods are visible around the city.

  1. I haven't made it here:) I love looking at the architecture of European cities. I take many pictures of city streets and building just so I can remember them all:)
