Leukemia - How is Jemma? - Day 15

Who do you think looks better in the hat?

Jemma received this hand made hat today from Dani, a friend of her aunt, who neither she nor I have ever met. Wow! The well wishes, caring, kindness flowing in from all of you is amazing.

In addition to the hat, yesterday we were very fortunate to receive a visit from a friend of a friend. Again somebody who reached out to help us through this difficult time. Her daughter is the same age as Jemma, and was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 1 year and 9 months. Now her little girl is free of treatment and thriving. She has already been very helpful by giving us a lot of information on what to expect and how our life is changing. In addition, she let us borrow three of her books on Leukemia and children's cancers. She lives near us, speaks both German and English, and said we could call anytime.

Here are the three books she recommends:

Living with Childhood Cancer by Leigh A Woznick
Oliver's Story for 'sibs' of Kids with Cancer by Michael Dodd
Childhood Leukemia by Nancy Keene

Heike if you are reading this - Thank you for reaching out to us. It means a lot.

Jemma had a busy morning packed with medical  treatments. As she was waking up she was brought directly into the procedure room to have her bone marrow withdraw. The results were good because her body is responding to the treatment. After the bone marrow withdraw she had to stay in the room for several hours to receive two types of chemo medications.

The afternoon turned out quite nice despite the misty, cloudy weather. A homeschooling family we are friends with stopped by and so did my husband. We all went together to the hospital playground.

As you probably remember my older two children are in Michigan with our relatives. They are getting to spend a lot of time playing with their cousins, being spoiled and having fun. When they come back they will both be a year older, as will my parents, and one of their cousins. Happy birthday everyone!

* I did not receive any compensation for this recommendation. I'm just a homeschooling mom who has found many products that I like. If you're interested in the products I recommend on this blog I want to make it easy for you to find them.
** I am an Amazon associate and receive a small portion of the sales on orders made after clicking in from this site, which I promptly spend on homeschooling books and supplies for my children.
