Salzburger Dom

It was so cool seeing this cathedral which appeared in so many scenes in the movie The Sound of Music. The Salzburger Dom was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style. Prior to it's construction earlier cathedrals stood at the site. When the captain is away Maria takes the children for an afternoon out singing and strolling. They pass by the front of the cathedral and you can see horse and buggies in the movie just like in the picture below.

The cathedral can be seen from all over Salzburg and it is located next door to the Residenz (the former palace of the Prince).
The Salzburger Dom was damaged by bombing during World War II, but later repaired.
The cathedral is known for its 4000 pipe organ and as the location for Mozart's baptism.
