Hohenschwangau

Hohenschwangau, located within walking distance of Neuschwanstein about one hour train trip from Munich, was the hunting cottage of the Bavarian Royal Family and childhool home of King Ludwig II. The palace was built by his father Maximilian II.
Schwan, the word seen in the middle of Hohenschwangau, is the German word for swan. Swans were the mascots of the family and are hidden in the decorations within the palace. It is fun for kids to see how many swans they can count when touring the palace.
